You work alone at a kiosk on the night shift. You fry patties on the grill, drop potatoes in the fryer, brew coffee and put orders together while the line piles up outside the window. Every customer wants something: one leaves a tip, another tries to rip you off, and some are just not right in the head. You've got one shift to make your money — rent, bills and a loan are waiting, and they won't pay themselves. You spend what you earn on gear: a second and third fryer basket, a faster grill, a coffee machine that does lattes, sharper knives. But the night isn't only about cooking. Sometimes something jumps out of the dumpster. Sometimes they come for you out of the woods, and you have to make it back to the kiosk before they catch you.
